[Preceeding text and quoted verse]

When the lion bares his teeth, do not
fancy that the lion shows to you a smile.
I have slain the man that sought my heart's blood many a time,
Riding a noble mare whose back none else may climb,
Whose hind and fore-legs seem in galloping as one,
Nor hand nor foot requireth she to urge her on.
And O the days when I have swung my fine-edged glaive
Amidst a sea of death where wave was dashed on wave!
The desert knows me well, the night, the mounted men
The battle and the sword, the paper and the pen

 الخَيْلُ وَاللّيْلُ وَالبَيْداءُ تَعرِفُني وَالسّيفُ وَالرّمحُ والقرْطاسُ وَالقَلَمُ

More delicate than its peers in the collection, the Mutannabbi bangles are a verse in two parts that can be stacked or worn separately, one on each wrist. They make intricate work of the usually austere Kufic script, resulting in a statement piece that is intriguingly delicate.

Kufic is the oldest form of Arabic calligraphy, developed towards the end of the 7th century in Kufa, Iraq. It was the main style used to scribe the earliest copies of the Qur’an and is also used as a decorative element on coins, monuments and buildings.

Designer's note: Bold and powerful, with a rich and dignified tradition in Arab history and culture, I thought the Kufic script perfectly mirrored Mutannabi’s fullness of character. If I could make only one purchase of the collection, I would choose this stunning two-piece. I can only hope to have done justice to its author and his beautiful verses.

You can read more about the poet here, and we definitely recommend it - he led quite a life!

Sizing and Care Instructions

Our bangles are adjustable and can be sized to fit all small to medium sized wrists with ease. Each bangle should only be adjusted once to fit. Please be aware that readjusting the bangle too often will weaken the metal.

Please find care instructions for your bangle here.

Gold Plating

Each Renaissance bracelet is carefully manufactured, formed and handfinished by a select team of experts. They are gold plated as required and polished to a stunning mirror-like shine.

We are often asked whether the gold-plating will fade. All plated jewellery fades with time, however, our bangles are finished with an extremely high polish and high quality gold plating. They will last a very long time before any noticeable fading.
